The viral test, honestly computed
What moon were you born under?
Enter your birth date and see your birth moon phase — and the phase that completes it into one whole Moon. Add a second birthday to lay two moons side by side. A playful mirror, not a verdict.
Free. Just dates — computed on your device with the same engine as the MoonQ app.
The moon phase soulmate test pairs the Moon's phase on your birthday with the phase directly across the lunar cycle — two slices of moonlight that together make one full Moon. Enter your birth date to see your exact birth phase and its complement, or add a second birthday to compare two moons side by side. It's a playful mirror for reflection — honestly computed, and never a verdict on your love life.
Find your birth moons
Just dates — the Moon's phase is the same everywhere on Earth, so no birthplace or time is needed. Computed on your device with the same engine as the MoonQ app.
A worked example, both modes
So the page is useful even with JavaScript off, here is exactly what the calculator returns — one date on its own, then two dates together.
One date — July 4, 1991
On July 4, 1991 the Moon was a Last Quarter — letting go. The phase that completes it across the cycle is the First Quarter.
Half-lit and descending — last-quarter people are good at closing chapters without drama.
Two dates — July 4, 1991 + February 17, 1993
Neighbouring moons — Last Quarter and Waning Crescent.
You were born one step apart on the lunar cycle — the same season of light, seen a little differently. That usually reads as easy familiarity, with just enough difference to keep things interesting.
A playful mirror, not a verdict — the worked pair above is deliberately not a “perfect match”, because real warmth doesn't need one.
Computed live by the MoonQ astro-engine — identical to the iOS app engine (verified to < 1e-9°). Tropical zodiac. Phase = the Moon–Sun angle, bucketed into the 8 standard phases; cross-check any date against timeanddate.com.

What the moon phase soulmate test actually is
The test went viral on TikTok: line up the Moon as it looked on your birthday with the Moon on someone else's, and see whether the two images complete each other — dark filling light, light filling dark, one whole Moon between you. It's a genuinely lovely image. Here's what it is and isn't, plainly.
What's real in it
The astronomy is fully real. The Moon's phase on any date is exact, computable, and the same everywhere on Earth — this page computes yours with the same engine the MoonQ app uses, from the angle between the Moon and the Sun. "Complementary" phases are real geometry too: they sit 180° apart on the lunar cycle, so their lit portions genuinely add up to one whole Moon. That's the part of the trend that's simply true, and it's why the test feels so satisfying to look at.
What it isn't
It is not a compatibility verdict. A birthday's moonlight can't tell you whom to trust, marry, or text back — and any page that says otherwise is selling you fate. Roughly one date in eight "matches" any given date this way; wonderful couples are built on every combination of moons, including identical ones. So read your pair the way you'd read a beautiful coincidence: smile, screenshot it, and let it start a conversation rather than settle one.
If you want the real thing
Actual astrological compatibility reads two whole charts against each other — Moons by sign, Venus and Mars by aspect, the lot. That's what MoonQ's Soulmate Reveal does with the same engine as this page, warmly and without doom. The moon phase test is the wink; the charts are the conversation.
Moon phase soulmate questions
What is the moon phase soulmate test?
A viral TikTok test: compare the Moon's phase on your birthday with the phase on someone else's, and see if the two lit shapes complete each other into one full Moon. This calculator computes both phases exactly — the fun is real, the astronomy is real, and the "verdict" is honestly labelled a game.
How do I find the moon phase on my birthday?
Enter your birth date above — the calculator computes the Moon–Sun angle for that date with the same engine as the MoonQ app and names the phase, with its illumination percentage. No birth time or place is needed: the Moon's phase is the same everywhere on Earth.
Which moon phases are "soulmates"?
In the trend, phases directly across the cycle from each other: new with full, waxing crescent with waning gibbous, first quarter with last quarter, waxing gibbous with waning crescent. Their lit faces sum to one whole Moon — real geometry, playfully read.
Is the moon phase soulmate test real?
The computation is real astronomy; the matchmaking is a game. About one date in eight complements any given birthday, and no phase pairing can decide a relationship. We built the test properly because it's a joyful way in — and MoonQ's Soulmate Reveal exists for when you want the real, whole-chart version.
What if we have the same moon phase?
Twin moons — you were born under the same slice of light. In the playful reading that's instant recognition rather than completion: you mirror each other's rhythms. It's neither better nor worse than a complementary pair, and the calculator gives every combination a warm, honest read.
Does my birth time change my moon phase?
Rarely, and only near a phase boundary. The phase angle moves about 12° a day, so a date pins your phase down unless you were born within hours of a phase turning — and when your date sits that close to an edge, the calculator says so and names the neighbouring phase too.
